China and India: The scramble for business in Africa

BBC takes a look at how China is moving in on Indian business in Kenya

Here’s an interesting article from the BBC investigating how China is developing its investment in Kenya and how India is concerned that it is being left behind. Indian trade with Africa is currently at healthy $65bn, but China is way ahead with a huge $200bn. There are concerns however, that China is importing it’s own workers and not investing in local employment. Africa has become such a draw for some Chinese workers that illegal immigrants have been deported from Ghana. Analyst Anil Bhandari says countries that trail China, such as India, should not be worried and that the Africa pie is too big for anyone to fret about…

Most African countries are growing at 7% to 9%. Players like India, China, Brazil, European countries have a role to play.
