Somalia Receives First Fibre Optic Cable Link

Fibre optic cable company Liquid Telecom provides Somalia with hard data link to the world

Somalia is to benefit from a fibre optic cable laid by Liquid Telecom, a company that already provides the country with internet via its satellites. This is the first hard connection for the East African country. Liquid Telecom will connect its cable to Somalia’s largest mobile operator, Hormund, and a network of cables that cross 11 African countries.

Chief Executive Officer Nic Rudnick said Liquid Telecom plans to invest $250m over the next 2 years to connect its network to more African cities, some of which will include major cities in West Africa.
